College of Fine Arts and Communication | 5 • Elvia Perrin has been invited as an artist vendor for the “Asher: Holiday by Hand” retail program, Hous- ton Center for Contemporary Craft in Houston from November 15, 2025 to January 31, 2026. Jason Reed participated in the Tallgrass Artist Residency in Matfield Green, Kansas in June and July of 2025. The residency seeks to create connections and conversation across the Great Plains through engagement with the prai- rie ecosystem. Soomin Remmler was invited to participate in a group exhibition at grayDUCK Gallery in Austin in June, cele- brating the gallery’s 15-year anniversary and highlighting artists who have contributed to its history. • Over the summer, Soomin Remmler presented a solo exhibition titled Coming Home at Conduit Gallery in Dallas, which ran from June through August 2025. • Soomin Remmler’s drawing "Love" was juried into the 2025 Colored Pencil Society of America (CPSA) Interna- tional Exhibition and shown at the Strathmore Man- sion Gallery in Bethesda, Maryland, alongside other nationally recognized works. • Soomin Remmler received the CPSA 5-Year Merit Award in recognition of her fifth acceptance into the society’s prestigious international exhibition. • Soomin Remmler is currently working on a commis- sioned public art project for the city of San Antonio, which is expected to be completed in early 2026. Liz Rodda currently has a solo exhibition, Bronze , on view at Dimensions Variable in Miami, Florida. The exhibition is the subject of an essay, "Bronze, Burn, Peel" by Max Tolleson, Core MFAH Program Critic-in-Residence. Her video Rocks, Clocks, Sea, Si is also currently on view at Ivester Gallery in Austin. Several Art & Design faculty, Trey Burns , Bethany Johnson , and Holly Veselka had their work featured in the ERCATX (Experimental Response Cinema of Austin) Local Filmmakers’ Showcase 2025, Wednesday, September 17 at 7pm. STUDENT ACCOLADES BFA student Blanca Luna Nuñez and alumnus, Deandra Lee (BFA Photo, graduated 2024) co-curated Tesoros: Treasures of Mexican Photography at the Wittliff Collec- tions as part of ARTT 4379: Art Education in/with the Community. Led by Dr. Adetty Pérez de Miles, the art ed- ucation course fosters interdisciplinary learning and public scholarship through student-centered art practices across the university and broader community. [4] Amerie Martinez and Hannah South’s prints were exhib- ited at Flatbed Press Editions Variables: Student Printmaking Exhibition during the summer. [5] ALUMNI ACCOLADES Bridgette Cyr (Photography), has stills from her films on view in the Sabinal Gallery through October 24. Now an award-winning filmmaker, photographer, and audio producer, Cyr’s work has been featured at festivals nation- wide, including the New Orleans Film Festival and Tribeca Institute’s IF/Then program. Asia Estelle has been invited to participate in the "BUT- TER" Fine Art Fair powered by AES Indiana on August 28–31. In its fifth iteration, the fair celebrates the work of established, independent, and emerging Black artists from Indiana and across the country as part of a new model for care and economic justice in the arts. DEPARTMENT ACCOLADES This June, twenty students successfully completed Art & Design’s four-week Florence Study Abroad program led by Andrew Chen and Bethany Johnson . [6] The School of Art & Design recently hosted its second annual A&D Connects, an event designed to welcome incoming art and design students. The program provid- ed students the opportunity to meet faculty from across disciplines and explore the facilities that will support their creative and academic journey toward earning a degree.
